REVIEW: Guest lecture "Controller*innen in der Praxis"

Mrs. Mag. Ulrike Steiner,  Schulmeister Management Consulting Linz GmbH

As part of the course KS Fundamentals of Operational Controlling, on January 14, 2022, Ms. Steiner (Schulmeister Management Consulting Linz GmbH) provided interesting insight into the job market in the field of controlling. In addition to changes on account of the Coronavirus pandemic, she spoke about the effects in lieu of digitalization, particularly introducing BI systems which are currently considered significant in support of corporate practice. Newcomers to the profession, however, are not expected to have experience in using these tools but are expected to be willing to focus on new programs as part of the orientation process.

Using real-world examples, Ms. Steiner also provided students with a general understanding what is expected of controllers. She spoke in detail about how to best to prepare for a career in the field and the importance of being clear about one's own goals and objectives. One should also make sure the company is also the right fit. Ms. Steiner also spoike about her company's role as an HR consultant and recruiter. Although the guest lecture had to take place online due to the current pandemic, a lively discussion took place afterwards.
