The Department of Didactics in Mathematics, Computer Science, Science and Technology (STEM Didactics for short) represents the subject-area didactics for biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics in research and teaching. In the area of education, the department is responsible for these particular teacher education programs (Bachelor's and Master's degree programs), as well as the PhD program in Education.

Didactics in mathematics is indispensable as a professional science for mathematics educators, particularly when it comes to integrating subject-specific components and educational training components with the required training to become a high-quality mathematics instructor. There are a number of related sciences: mathematics (including its history), pedagogy, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and more and more, the field of computer science.
Created in 1991, the working group "Didactics in Physics" is a department at the Institute of Experimental Physics. As part of the restructuring process of didactics education, in 2016, the department was incorporated into the Department of STEM Didactics of the Linz School of Education.
