The "Berufsbilder-Berufswahl - rechtzeitig!" ("Jobs-Career Awareness - Now!") has now been completed but we would still like to provide information to teachers and anyone interested in the program:
The program was organized and carried out by the Department of Gender & Diversity Management at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in cooperation with the Office for Women's Affairs (city of Linz). Designed to support the professional career interests of boys and girls without gender bias, the program aimed to talk about various jobs and degree programs, particularly in the field of engineering & natural sciences while breaking stereotypes and in an attempt to combat the predicted shortage of skilled workers in the future.
In addition to working directly with children, program managers worked together with teachers to provide information about jobs, careers, and education to talk about in the classroom.
We have created a handout which includes a compendium of texts and exercises on the subject as well as numerous examples and copy templates.

Even now, only a few girls will opt to pursue a technical profession and only a few boys will pursue socially-oriented studies and jobs. Pictures of "what I want to be when I grow up" leave their mark in early childhood, sparking an interest for future professions. We strongly believe it is important for children to learn gender-awareness and gender equality early on in the classroom so they know they can grow up to pursue a variety of careers.
