Objectives

Composition of more complex formal and semi-formal texts on a variety of topics. Use of varied grammatical structures and elaborate vocabulary.

Course content

• Opinion and argumentative texts
• Composing texts on visual and textual impulses (e.g. contribution to a student magazine, description of a picture)
• Text summary based on guiding questions
• Formal and semi-formal correspondence (e.g., complaint e-mail)
• Description and interpretation of statistics, graphs, diagrams
• motivation letter
• Work with informal text types (e.g. reconstructing a story from a chat history, writing a life story based on provided keyword prompts)
• Vocabulary work, exercises on style, text coherence and grammar

Assessment criteria

Mandatory, regular attendance (at least 80% of weekly classes must be attended), active class participation, mid-term test, final exam.
