THE IRIS-FISCHLMAYR Awards and Scholarship.

The IRIS-FISCHLMAYR Awards are presented in recognition of outstanding academic/scientific Master’s/Diploma degree theses as well as dissertations containing a relevance to diversity. The IRIS-FISCHLMAYR Scholarship provides funding to support a dissertation by a junior female scholar in areas of engineering and natural sciences.

 

The awards and fellowship are comprised as follows:

  • One award accompanied with €2,500 in prize money to financially support a completed, outstanding dissertation related to diversity in Social Sciences, Economics & Business, Law and/or in Medical Sciences
  • Two awards accompanied with € 1,250 in prize money to financially support completed, outstanding Master's/Diploma degree theses related to diversity in Social Sciences, Economics & Business, Law and/or in Medical Sciences
  • A Research Scholarship in accordance with § 95 of the Austrian Universities Act, in the currently valid form, in the form of a dissertation scholarship to financially support a junior female scholar in tje disciplines of engineering and natural sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz for a 12-month period, up until the dissertation is complete.

Decisions in regard to the award winners and grant recipient are expected in May 2024. Applicants will be notified at this time.

The awards and scholarship ceremony is scheduled to take place during the Young Researchers' Awards Ceremony in the JKU's ceremony room at 5.00 p.m on June 24, 2024.

Prize money in the amount of € 2,500 to financially support a completed, outstanding dissertation with a reference to diversity in Social Sciences, Economics & Business, Law, and/or Medical Sciences

Application Requirements:

We invite applications by graduates who submitted a diversity-related dissertation in the Social Sciences, Economics & Business, Law, and/or Medical Sciences, with a grade of "Very Good" (1). The dissertation must have been graded after January 1, 2022.

When submitting your application, indicate whether or not the dissertation has already been submitted to another funding institution or if you have already received an award for this particular dissertation and/or funding from another source.

Applications can only be considered for dissertations written in German or English.

Please submit the following:

  • Informal application with a current CV and academic diplomas
  • dissertation and thesis abstract (1 page)
  • review or letter of recommendation from the supervisor on the thesis’ funding eligibility (1 page max.)
  • Signed supplement concerning participation confirmation and privacy policy

 

Financial Award:

The award is accompanied by prize money in the amount of € 2,500 in support of the dissertation

In accordance with § 95 of the Austrian Universities Act (in the currently valid form) and to financially support a junior female academic/scientist in the area of engineering and natural sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz for a 12-month period, a research grant in the form of a dissertation grant is awarded to financially assist in completing a dissertation.

 

Application Requirements:

We invite applications by junior female scholars enrolled in a subject area in engineering and/or natural sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.

 

Please submit the following:

  • An informal application containing a current CV and a Letter of Intent
  • A description of the dissertation
    (incl. details about the objectives, hypotheses, methodology, work and time schedule, dissemination strategies and collaborations, interest in international research networks)
  • Academic/scientific vitae (incl. a list of publications)
  • Letter of recommendation by the dissertation supervisor in support of the application
  • Signed supplement concerning participation confirmation and privacy policy

 

Please attach the following to the application:

  • Proof of nationality (copy) / Proof of comparable status as a national in accordance with § 4 StudFG (copy) / Proof of a residence permit for the duration of the scholarship, or verification that residence permit requirements for the duration of the scholarship have been met
  • Proof of admission to a doctorate degree program (studies record sheet, study period confirmation, confirmation of enrollment, etc.)
  • Copy of conferral for all academic degrees
  • An abstract and review of the applicant's Diploma degree/Master's thesis


Duration, Amount and Reporting Requirement:

The fellowship duration is for a 12-month period.

The monthly amount of financial support is € 2,500 and is subject to income tax.

If there is an employment relationship with the JKU, or one is to be established during the period of the scholarship, please notify the coordinating office. In this case, the scholarship recipient must perform any and all activities related to their dissertation outside of regularly scheduled work hours. Any overlap regarding content and/or work hours between scholarship recipient and employment at the JKU is not permitted.

The fellowship recipient is required to submit a detailed report at the end of fellowship period.
The report is to be sent to the coordinating office, the Department of Human Resources Development, Gender & Diversity Management, gd(at)jku.at.
The fellowship may not be extended and the recipient may not re-apply.

Once the submission deadline has passed, a jury of experts chaired by the Vice-Rector for Research, Gender and Diversity at the Johannes Kepler University Linz will review all of the submitted applications and render a decision regarding the award recipients and granting the award with the accompanying prize money. If deemed necessary and as part of the decision process, the jury reserves the right to speak with the applicants and/or obtain expert opinions from internal and/or external reviewers.

 

Applicants will be notified about the outcome of the review process and the awards and scholarship by May 2024.

 

The awards and scholarship ceremony is scheduled to take place during the Young Researchers' Awards Ceremony in JKU's ceremony room at 5.00 p.m on June 24, 2024.

 

Following a positive decision regarding the scholarship, the applicant and a representative at the Johannes Kepler University Linz will sign a scholarship agreement pertaining to the dissertation scholarship, outlining and regulating the payment arrangements and the recipient’s obligations and responsibilities.
