Due to the current developments regarding the revelations surrounding the Alternative for Germany (AfD), an article appeared in the German news magazine DER SPIEGEL, which picked up on a research article by Stephan Pühringer and Walter Ötsch on the subject of right-wing populism and neoliberalism. In it, they cite the structural similarities between the two areas, but also point out that protest movements against right-wing parties, such as those in many German cities last weekend, are on the rise and stand up against the threating of democracy.
