The Institute of Analytical and General Chemistry consists of two departments, the Department of Analytical Chemistry and the Department of General Chemistry.
The Department of Analytical Chemistry stands for excellence in organic analysis and trace analysis of organic compounds in samples of various types (environment, technical products, food, clinical samples, etc.). State-of-the-art analysis equipment is available for this purpose to conduct both base-knowedge research and application-oriented research at an international level. The Department of Analytical Chemistry actively works closely with industrial partners to support various projects, as well as with medical institutions, and is open to new partnerships. In the field of analytical chemistry, students learn about the fundamentals and acquire a base-knowledge understanding of various special areas in the field of chemical analysis. Topics for Bachelor's and Master's theses help prepare students to embark on a professional career or pursue a doctorate degree.
The Department of General Chemistry focuses primarily on conveying a fundamental understanding of the field of chemistry to students in a wide variety of majors. By means of lectures, tutorials and internships, students are introduced to the basic skill sets they need in order to successfully complete their studies.
