Particulate Flow Modelling

Our Department of Particulate Flow Modelling has been founded as an independent JKU research entity following the extraordinary success of the preceding Christian-Doppler Laboratory on Particulate Flow Modelling (2009-2015).

We focus our research on developing numerical models for particulate flows with special emphasis on the multi-scale nature of large-scale processes. This involves the development of (i) embedded co-simulations and sub-grid models, (ii) hybrid Eulerian and Lagrangian simulations as well as (iii) recurrence models for efficient time extrapolation of full CFD simulations.

We further substantiate numerical model development by analytic considerations of the physical core phenomena and by dedicated lab experiments.

The outcome of his research group has been disseminated by open-source codes (, and by to date more than 150 publications in scientific journals and refereed conference proceedings.
