Kathrin Mayr, MA

University Assistant

Curriculum Vitae

I have been following scientific research in the field sales psychology for many years. As Senior Sales manager of a luxury travel company based in Munich it was one of my main responsibilities to analyze and to understand the FIT market developments as well as the consumer behavior of the company’s discerning clients. Accordingly, I needed to synchronize sales and buying processes.

As a sales leader I have always put great emphasis on combining practical experiences with scientific theories specifically in regard to communication and consumer psychology in order to take adequate decisions. My sales expertise as well as the independent scientific research and analysis, which led to great sales successes, helped me to take on the honorable role as (Sales) People manager shortly after I started working in an international team in New Delhi. I spent a total of 8 years there - paired with some longer stays in Asia and Oceania to test new products for our customers and to build up new destinations for the firm’s destination portfolio. I was also in charge of press trips in Asia for numerous journalists from German-speaking countries.

My role as a manager included for many years as well the preparation of sales training materials, leading global sales trainings for the global sales force online as well as individual coaching activities. As a graduate from the University of Salzburg with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in the Department of Education with specialization on teaching and learning systems (digital and analog) at the University of Salzburg, I initially took over teaching activities as a volunteer in India and at a language school in Salzburg.

Hence, I can identify myself very well with any teaching activities and I look very much forward to working together with the students at the JKU.

Until November 2020 I worked as a Senior Sales Manager and have since devoted more time to strategic management, which includes marketing and project management as part of it. Over the last few years I have built up Relationship Marketing (Guest Relations) aiming at not only to maintain but moreover to strengthen the customer relationships and to create long-term loyalty.

Among the best experiences for me are the years of international collaboration with people from all over the world, the product development of numerous great destinations in Asia and Oceania, and the establishment of a sales framework resulting in significantly higher conversion rates and profits. Winning the Go Asia Award 2014 in the course of a sales and marketing collaboration is also part of it.

My vision for my work at the Institute of Retailing, Sales and Marketing manifests itself in value creation by creating inspiring learning experiences for students as well as by generating relevant excellent scientific research contributions in the areas of Customer and Consumer Research, Sales psychology and Sales management. To my mind the whole retail industry plays a central component for our social system, which makes it all the more important for me to create impact with an excellent consumer und customer research.
