Assist.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Günter Klambauer and Dr.in Yolanda Salinas
Our LIT Breakfast Briefings not only provide a brief introduction into an emerging field of research and current cutting-edge research being conducted at the JKU, but also looks at the potential to apply key research developments to address real-world problems. Two topics – 30 minutes. And coffee is included!
December 16, 2020, 8:30 – 9:00 AM, Zoom, JKU
Program:
“Reshaping Healthcare, Medicine and Drug Design with Attention-Based Machine Learning.”
Günter Klambauer (LIT AI Lab & Institute for Machine Learning)
Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently experienced tremendous success in almost all areas, ranging from industry and logistics, to science. These accomplishments are based on deep neural networks which have also been successfully applied to medical imaging, patient monitoring, and creating drugs. In these areas of life science, so-called attention-mechanisms were a special facilitating factor that allowed interpretation of the AI’s decisions. This talk will provide an overview of recent developments in neural artificial intelligence in the fields of life science and discuss the implications.
“Nanoparticles Exceptionally Shiny: Controlling Size and Quantum Yield.”
Yolanda Salinas (Institute of Polymer Chemistry)
Over the last decade, metal lead halide perovskites have emerged as a true ‘superstar’ among semiconducting materials. This joint project between the JKU and BUT demonstrates our extremely easy and low-cost optimized synthesis method to prepare highly luminescent nanoparticles in support of developing future optoelectronic devices.
