Full-time, six-year - PostDoc position

Job Duties:

Research:     Contribute to research activities within the Pohl group's research foci - membrane transport and mechanics. The group is especially interested in molecular mechanisms of proton, water, ion, and protein transport. Most of the work deals with purified and reconstituted proteins. The successful applicant will combine fluorescence single-molecule microscopy and single-channel electrophysiology.

Education:    Assist in teaching university-level courses offered by the institute (mandatory only for the 6 year-position)

Your Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. in the field of Physics/Biophysics or equivalent qualification
  • Strong command of English (level C1)
  • Expertise in a programming language
  • Experience in highly-sensitive light microscopic techniques (preferentially fluorescence single-molecule microscopy)
  • Of advantage would be: knowledge of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, electrophysiology, working experiences with planar and vesicular model membranes
  • Commitment, responsibility, communication and critical thinking skills, team spirit, and ambition

The salary is € 3,945.90 gross per month (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)

Research:     Realization of a grant from the Austrian Research Fund (FWF). The successful applicant will monitor purified and reconstituted mechanosensitive channels simultaneously by fluorescence single-molecule microscopy and single-channel electrophysiology.

Your Qualifications:

  • You hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. in the field of Physics/Biophysics or equivalent
  • Strong command of English (level C1)
  • Expertise in a programming language
