Hard Disk Drives are Music to My Ears

Combine creativity with a passion to conduct experiments and apply your theoretical skills to make music!

We all use electronic devices, such as scanners, printers, and memory devices, but only a handful of us have ever really seen them up close from the inside.
Where is the motor actually located in a printer? And what does a concert comprised of several devices sound like?

This project-based course will involve creating an instrument using electronic devices. The concept encourages research-based/experimental learning and a hands-on educational approach.

Students will learn how to apply their theoretical understanding to creating a hands-on project. The new course aims to not only minimize any reservations related to hardware, but also encourage students from different majors to work together, and convey project organization and execution methods. The course will also provide ample opportunity to integrate individual projects into an overall project.

Taught by the LIT CPS Lab, this course will take place for the first time during the 2024 Summer Semester. The first class will be held as part of two courses in Medical Engineering and Electronics/Information Technology.
Do you enjoy tinkering with gadgets and also wish to want to expand on your theoretical understanding? If so, then your background in electronic circuit technology, electrical drive technology, or programming embedded systems will be useful! Students do not have to have any prior background in music. We use a project-based approach that will also demonstrate just how different teams can work toward a goal together in a practical, hands-on way!

We will determine the project assignments for each project group together at the start of the semester.
