Statistical Consulting and Data Analysis at CCS Linz.

The CCS Linz offers statistical consulting and data analysis.

For each project statistical consulting is free of charge up to 6 hours for

  • employees of the medical faculty (MED) of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz
  • researchers of university clinics and institutes of the JKU
  • employees of the clinics and institutes of the Kepler Universitätsklinikum GmbH (KUK)

Statistical consulting for employees of non-profit organizations (e.g. of the Ordenskliniken, Klinikum Wels-Grieskirchen, …) and employees of industrial companies is charged on an hourly basis.

General Information

To apply for statistical consulting please send the completed registration form, opens a file (English version on request) to medstat(at)jku.at. In the first meeting we will discuss your (statistical) problem and define further steps.

Consulting Hours

On receipt of the registration form, opens a file (English version on request) the Team Statistics will send you a link to book a consulting meeting. Detailed information on the (online) meeting will be sent via e-mail.

Consulting services are offered weekly in the following 60-minute slots:

Registration Details

To book a consulting meeting the completed registration form, opens a file (English version on request) has to be sent to medstat(at)jku.at. Please answer all questions precisely. The Team Statistics will answer within 3 working days and send a link to book an appointment.

To request statistical consulting services at CCS Linz please

  1. read the information provided on the homepage carefully.
  2. fill in the registration form, opens a file (English version on request) completely and as precisely as possible.
  3. send the filled form and all relevant documents of your project (study protocol, application for the ethics committee, …) via e-mail to medstat(at)jku.at. Please do not send any data.

Statistical Consulting and Data Analysis

In the first consultation meeting (maximum duration: 1 hour) the most important questions on your project are discussed. The meeting is preferably via Zoom (or other video conferencing tools) or at MED Campus 1, Building ADM 8th floor, Krankenhausstraße 5, only on appointment.

 

In the first consulting meeting of at most 1 hour questions on biometry for the ethics approval, the statistical analysis section in the study protocol, the data collection process or statistical software will be discussed. This consultation is free of charge to promote scientific research at the JKU and KUK. Projects of external non-profit organisations and customers from industrial companies are charged at fixed hourly rates.

Please note that data must not be submitted before the first meeting. Data may be transferred only on agreement and only in anonymised or pseudonymised form. Data with personal information will be reported to the data protection officer of the JKU Linz and deleted immediately.

We advise and provide support in all statistical aspects of your project, for example

  • conception of study design and data analysis for research proposals
  • sample size calculations – to prepare for the meeting please use the form, opens a file Guideline for Sample Size Calculation (English version on request)
  • writing the analysis plan – to prepare for the meeting please use the form, opens a file Exemplary Evaluation Plan (English version on request)
  • instruction on statistical analysis with software (e.g. SPSS, R, …)
  • data analysis

If services are liable to costs a detailed prelimary cost estimate will be sent. Once it is confirmed that the costs will be met, the Team Statistics will perform the services as per agreement.

Students

Basic concepts in statistics are introduced to medical students at MED in the following courses:

  • Quality and effectiveness of care I (Bachelor Medical Science)
  • Scientific work II (Master Medical Science)
  • Fundamentals of scientific research and general skills II (Doctoral Studies Medical Science)

Statistical consulting for master theses is provided each semester in the course KS Statistics. Supervisors of master theses or dissertations may apply for additional statistical consulting via the registration form.
