The JKU Mourns the Loss of Univ. Prof. Dr. Dionys L. Lehner

Dr. Dionys L. Lehner passed away on April 18, 2023.

Born in Switzerland, Dr. Dionys L. Lehner (1942 - 2023) earned his doctorate degree in "Public Finance" at the University of Zurich and between 1977 and 2016, he served as Chairman of the Board at Linz Textil Holding AG and CEO of the Linz Textil Group. The honorary JKU Senator donated €1 million to the Faculty of Medicine in 2019, directed at supporting cancer research.

With a deep sense of conviction, Dr. Dionys L. Lehner generously supported the JKU's Faculty of Medicine. One of his particular concerns was base-knowledge research to treat cancer. His generous donation boosted the Department of Hematology and Internal Oncology's research budget, enabling many junior scientists to focus intensively on studying oncological issues. "Thanks to this kind of cancer research, an increasing number of people have been able to survive cancer. I personally take great pleasure in donating funds to support oncological research at the new medical school in Linz," Dr. Lehner remarked at the time, commenting his decision to donate the generous amount. In addition to supporting the JKU's Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Lehner was a visionary and a trailblazer, helping to shape the Faculty's course for the future.

The JKU Faculty of Medicine and the Johannes Kepler University is indebted to Dr. Dionys L. Lehner and will continue to remember and honor his memory.
