Each university offers degree programs in specific subject areas. Each subject area is taught and researched at so-called faculties and schools.
The JKU has four faculties and two schools which, in turn, have their own subject-specific departments where internationally renowned faculty members work and where each year, thousands of new students pursue higher education. Engineering and Natural Sciences
The Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences (TNF) at the JKU is home to 58 institutes, 30 academic degree programs, and the "MACH" supercomputer. This computer's storage capacity is equivalent to approximately eight billion sheets of A4-size paper. In other words, all piled up the result would be an 800-km stack of paper. There is still memory available for the projects of approximately 4,500 students in the following departments:
- Chemistry and Polymer Engineering Technologies
- Computer Science
Business and Social Studies
With 33 institutes and over 7,000 enrolled students, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business (SOWI) is the Johannes Kepler University´'s largest faculty. Founded in 1966, the faculty today offers 26 academic degree programs and includes the following departments:
- Business and Business Informatics
- Economics and Applied Statistics
- Social and Cultural Studies
- Education and Psychology
In addition to 21 institutes and 5 academic degree program, the Faculty of Faculty (RE) at the JKU is also home to Austria's largest legal library. The collection contains over 150,000 books and 20,000 journal volumes - quite a bit of reading material for approximately 8,000 enrolled students studying:
- Civil Law
- Business Law
- Interdisciplinary Legal Sciences
- Public Law
Founded in 2014, the Faculty of Medicine (MED) is the JKU's youngest faculty. The JKU is the first university in Austria to offer studies in Human Medicine in the Bachelor / Master degree system. The Faculty of Medicine is home to 30 institutes and 3 degree programs for approximately 1,800 enrolled students.
Linz Institute of Technology
Engineering in Linz - the Johannes Kepler University is renowned for its globally recognized quality educational degree programs. The Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) brings the JKU's brilliance and creative powers under one roof. Valuable collaboration partners include a large number of internationally active business and industrial companies. Joint research - stemming from over 50 years of practiced tradition - is a key factor of continual regional advancement. The school provides project-oriented funding through LIT Calls and includes permanent research centers.
Linz School of Education
Founded in 2016, the Linz School of Education at the JKU pools and coordinates interdisciplinary responsibilities as part of JKU's commitment to pedagogics and education. In addition to the core task of teaching, our educational experts also focus on educational sciences and research in didactics to support the program in teacher education studies, learning and teaching at schools, the education system and its paramters at an international level.
