Over the past several years, university management has focused on digital progress at the University of Linz. As part of the JKU's strategic direction, and in support of advancement, digitizing research and education, modernizing existing systems and administrative applications, conducting research (and applying new technologies in particular) are contributing significantly to progress at all levels of modern university operations.
In this regard, digitization is creating new opportunities that allow us to successfully implement IT's strategic goals. Information Management operates along central, strategic guidelines and considers itself a driver and reliable partner to implement the JKU's agendas in digitization:
As the use of new systems increases, support services should be available to students in the best possible way, especially to ensure their academic success.
In this respect, digitization should be included in the curricula, effectively accompanying students during their studies, especially as new and improved IT services - such as user-friendly mobile student platforms - become more widely available. There is also a special focus directed at expanding the digital education as well as the types of courses available to students, including measures pertaining to electronic examinations, understanding media technology requirements, and learning how to create and use digital learning formats, such as course videos.
Digital technologies aim to help expand IT services at a high level of quality, making them available to equally support education, research and administrative services. Technology is not an end in itself, but rather it is more about strengthening the JKU, its members, and the services offered as the university advances and becomes more competitive.
To the extent that new technologies are to be taught and researched, we must also advance central IT infrastructures and expertise toward developing future-proof and scalable environments.
By investing in a high-performance, computing infrastructure, the JKU aims to provide ideal conditions to conduct research and support educational projects related to future topics, such as artificial intelligence and big data.
We encounter digital transformation at various levels every day and despite the current enthusiasm for technology, we must not forget our employees' individual needs and skills. There must be a special focus on providing people with qualifications and skills as well as providing a human-centered approach to gradually adapt to pattern changes in the way we work, interact, and communicate.
Together with university management and representatives in the area of education, research and administrative services, Information Management is working on implementing corresponding measures and projects based on these guidelines.
