On 28 February 2024, a well-attended Lunch Time Seminar took place, which focused on the topic of research funding. The event, which was opened by Prof Dr Barbara Krumay (Dean for Research & Impact), brought together experts and interested parties to provide an insight into research funding.

The participants first received an informative input from Mag. Isabella Staska on the various possibilities of research funding in the areas of BWL/WIN (FWF, FFG, foundations, EU projects, OeNB, etc.). It was emphasised that the Abteilung Forschungsförderung und Wissenstransferis a valuable resource for successfully realising projects.

This was followed by a lively panel discussion with successful JKU scientists: Prof Dr Sophie Parragh (Institut für Produktions- und Logistikmanagement), Prof Dr Ernst Langthaler (Institut für Wirtschafts-, Sozial- und Umweltgeschichte) and Dr Mario Lackner (Institut für Volkswirtschaftslehre) shared their insights into the world of research funding. The discussion focused on the various funding organisations, their advantages and disadvantages, practical tips and tricks for successful applications and the management of projects.

The experts pointed out that compliance with formal requirements is crucial and that feedback should be taken seriously throughout the process. In addition, no-gos in the application process were discussed in order to avoid pitfalls. The participants thus gained valuable insights into best practices and the critical aspects that need to be considered when realising projects.

The event was organised by Assoc. Prof. Birgit Grüb-Martin (Institute of Management Accounting) and Ass.-Prof. Thomas Brunner-Kirchmair (Institute of Corporate Finance).

Afterwards, the discussions were continued and deepened with sandwiches and drinks provided by the JKU Business School.

The next Lunch Time Seminar will take place on 28 May 2024 from 12:30-14:00.
