A high-profile jury presented this year's award to Dr. Anna Obereder in recognition of her outstanding dissertation written at the JKU’s Institute of Constitutional Law and Political Science. The jury especially praised the paper's comparative legal approach which did not restrict itself to addressing the different forms of state law in isolated cases, but rather focused on common structural issues, taking different solution strategies and regulatory models into account. Despite its increasing importance in everyday practice, funeral law is a rarely explored subject area in terms of legal doctrine. The award-winning paper has since been published by Verlag Österreich.

Since 2016, the presidents of the regional parliaments in Austria and South Tyrol and the Institute for Federalism have presented the award on annual basis. The award is intended to recognize outstanding Master’s and Diploma degree theses as well as dissertations, and for planned or ongoing projects in research and administrative practice.
