Film: Cats and Rats - and Especially Quanta

Quantum physics made easy: A new film takes a look at high-tech research at the JKU by using a double-date as an example.

A double-date sound like fun at first but things can sometimes get complicated quickly. If the double-date consists of a couple that was once together and now each of them show up to the date with a new partner, the situation can become awkward. Cats, Rats & Lovebirds tells the tale of weird turns that happen during the evening, unfolding the drama that could occur when four different personalities in relationship come together. But actually it would be all good, if weren’t for the salt shaker, crystal structures, and that damn uncertainty principle…

Following three earlier productions, »Maybe Palermo«, »Rhinospider: Eine Operation in drei Akten« and »Battery Betty«, the Linz University of Art& Design debuts Cats, Rats & Lovebirds, taking the audience on yet another cinematic journey to explore base-knowledge research. The fourth film in the series focuses on quantum physics about "electrically driven Ge Quantum dot lasers towards on-chip applications." Moritz Brehm and Martyna Grydlik (Institute of Semiconductor and Solid State Physics, JKU) worked closely together with WTZ West and LAS GAFAS FILMS to create an intimate portrait between cocktails, quantum physics, and nano-lasers.

The film premieres at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Moviemento Kino in Linz.
