The JKU’s Bachelor’s & Master’s in "Artificial Intelligence" via Distance Learning in Bregenz

Starting this fall, the JKU Center for Distance Learning will offer Artificial Intelligence (AI) - one of the JKU’s most promising programs - in Bregenz.

Student Artificial Intelligence

Experts agree that artificial intelligence will be more groundbreaking than the discovery of electricity. Starting this fall, the JKU’s Center for Distance Learning will offer the Artificial Intelligence (AI) program - one of the Johannes Kepler University’s most promising programs – in Bregenz and would like to invite you to take part in an online information session on April 21, 2021.

Artificial intelligence is becoming a part of our everyday lives, especially as work continues in advancements such as autonomous vehicles, healthcare robots, smart household appliances, autonomous irrigation and fertilization systems, smart digital assistants, and much more. It is an industry of the future that is actively shaping the world of tomorrow.

The JKU’s Bachelor's degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) - one of the first of its kind to be offered in Europe – is an ideal starting point. Offered entirely in English, future AI experts enrolled in this internationally-oriented degree program not only learn how artificial intelligence can serve society, but also where the dangers lie.

Following comprehensive base-knowledge in mathematics and computer science, the program focuses on many aspects of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, knowledge representation, and language processing. Beginning in the fall of 2021, Bregenz will join Vienna and become an additional location where students can pursue this degree.

Stefan Koch, JKU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, remarked: "Students can complete almost the entire program in Bregenz and Vienna, opens an external URL in a new window. Our faculty members hold the courses in lecture halls at the JKU campus and those courses are broadcast to our Bregenz and Vienna campuses via video conference or live stream.".

Digitization Growth in Vorarlberg
Increasing expertise in AI and digitization are positively impacting the region in an economic way.

Hubert Rhomberg is the managing director of the internationally active Rhomberg Group based in Bregenz and his construction is already using AI. He added: "Artificial intelligence, meaning machine learning from data and automated intelligent behavior, is a cornerstone of digitalization. For companies that intend to remain competitive in the future, 'AI' will eventually be just as important as, for example, the excavator at a construction company. Employees will no longer need to focus on the more monotonous work, but can create space for growth and innovation. And, of course, we need this in Vorarlberg. Vorarlberg is an area that is home to a great many data treasures."

Barbara Schöbi-Fink, governor of Vorarlberg, believes the degree program is a boost for the region: "Artificial Intelligence has great future potential and will play a key role in changing the way we live and work. The new Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Artificial Intelligence offered in Bregenz at the Study Center by the Johannes Kepler University Linz will be an excellent opportunity to qualify for future challenges. The high-quality, innovative degree program offered by the Johannes Kepler University Linz will greatly enrich the Vorarlberg region."

The Center for Distance Learning - A JKU Success Story
Doris Defranceschi, Center for Distance Learning in Bregenz remarked: "Over the past 40 years, the Center for Distance Learning in Bregenz has provided university education to Vorarlberg and its neighboring regions, accompanying over 700 students per semester as they earn internationally recognized university degrees. The innovative AI degree program gives us – and the Johannes Kepler University - a new opportunity to offer a future-oriented program that will benefit the economic region of Vorarlberg as well as the entire Lake Constance region. Much like our entire range of degree programs, the AI program is ideal for high school graduates as well as working professionals who wish to earn a degree."

The online information session on April 21, 2021 at 6 PM, is aimed at prospective students as well as students interested in the Master's degree program.

Following opening remarks by JKU Vice-Rector Stefan Koch, Johannes Kofler (Institute for Machine Learning) will talk about the curriculum and answer questions. A student based in Vienna will talk about his remote-learning experiences in the program.
