JKU Graduate Heads the Institute of the World Economy

Gabriel Felbermayr, a graduate of Economics at the JKU, has been appointed head of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

Born in Steyr in 1976, Gabriel Felbermayr began his economic degree at the JKU in 1995. Between 2003 and 2004, the economist was a university graduate assistant at the JKU. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the 2004 Theodor Körner Award and the Reinhard Selten Award “Verein für Socialpolitik” (2007). He has been the Director of the ifo Center for International Economics at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich since 2010.

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy employs over 170 people, including 90 researchers. The annual budget is approximately 14 million euros a year.
