Wolfgang Schöfberger heads an organic chemistry team at the JKU that worked on a creative approach to convert the harmful CO2 gas into alcohol! Specifically, into ethanol and methanol but in the end, it is alcohol.

In recognition of outstanding achievement, the JKU chemists were presented with a state award for innovation in the category of research companies. During the awards ceremony, Markus Achleitner (state minister for economic affairs), remarked: "Innovative strength is a key driver for this location, particularly during these challenging times. After all, innovation is a decisive prerequisite for our companies and for Upper Austria as location of business, especially to be able to hold our own when it comes to international competition."
