The business publication Wirtschaftswoche recently published a ranking of top researchers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The ranking about current research performance covers publications in the five-year period between 2016 and including 2020 and included 3,346 academics, in which Markus Sinnl placed an outstanding 57th. The young researcher at the Institute of Production and Logistics Management (dept. head: Prof. Sophie Parragh) placed even higher among the "young up-and-coming academics". He placed 30 among the "Researchers under 40" category.

A former JKU researcher was also listed in the ranking: Prof. Martin Hiebl worked at JKU up until 2015 and now conducts research at the University of Siegen. He is ranked 80th and 6th is the “over 40” category. Incidentally, Prof. Hiebl can also celebrate this success at the JKU as he has been back in Linz since 2019 as a visiting professor.

Sinnl's areas of research include theoretical and computational aspects of mixed integer (non)linear programming, decomposition methods for mixed integer (non)linear programming, bilevel programming and combinatorial optimization. The ranking included 23 publications written by the JKU researcher.
